Toroidal Transformers    



The Toroidal Transformers manufactured at Benaka meets the customers’ stringent design requirements by using High Quality Grade CRGO and CRNGO cores.

Toroidal transformers offer many advantages over the standard laminated power transformers. Toroidals work silently; operate efficiently with very low stray magnetic fields. Their small size and weight support a package that is easy to design into any application.

At the heart of the toroidal is a highly-efficient Ring Shaped (Donut) core in which all molecules are in the direction of flux. This results in the efficient use of the core material, enabling a reduction in the size and weight by up to 50% (depending on the power rating), allowing the design engineer to innovate by exploiting the toroidal's small size, low weight, ease of mounting and flexible dimensions.

Since toroidal cores are made of a continuously-wound ribbon, there is virtually no air gap and results in a silent operation, and stray magnetic fields from air gaps are eliminated. The windings are even over the entire core, allowing the transformer to operate at a higher flux density than in standard transformers. Toroidal transformers can operate at 1.6 to 1.8 Tesla (16,000 to 18,000 Gauss) while EI cores are limited to 1.2 to 1.4 Tesla (12,000 to 14,000 Gauss). The magnetic flux of the windings is oriented in the same direction as the grain-oriented core, thus achieving very high electrical efficiencies.

Benaka also manufactures Current Transformer (CT’s) where the Secondary Coil is wound on a Toroidal Core of high permeability Silicon Steel. The winding of the Current Transformer provides a lower proportional current which can be easily measured using measuring instruments. CT does also isolate the measuring instruments from mains and higher voltages. Benaka CT’s are of a high accuracy class and comes in various options including PCB Mountable, Clamp Mountable, With Flying leads, Encapsulated and Epoxy Molded.
